I think I’m going to have to get one of these whole house water filters. Our dishwasher no longer seems to clean our dishes satisfactorily. We always have a film which I’m guessing would be removed if we had a water filter. The information on this site is just what I need. Thanks!

Good article. There is a a old adage- “Better to have some filtration rather than none.” Even a Britta is better than municipal water. You have to have some filtration to at least take out the chlorine. From a base unit like Britta there are plenty of good units available. Check online.

“Does anyone know if a carbon filter will help with the excess calcium.” – this will not help you at all. Limescale just requires rehular cleaning with special solutions.

I have a salt filter. However I still have too much calcium in my water I can see it on the glass shower door and fixtures of the shower. Does anyone know if a carbon filter will help with the excess calcium.

I have a water distiller.
When process is finished at the bottom of the stainless container is residue from the tap water.
It is unbelievable all the gunk.
I am a believer in using a home water filter for sure.

One of the best decisions we ever made was purchasing a whole house water filter. It just made our water taste much better, our hair and skin felt better, and the laundry came so clean! Sure you had to go under the house and put in filter rocks every couple of months, but it was worth it. Only downside, we didn’t take it with us when we sold the house. But they are not cheap – at least the one we bought. It was about $800 used.
