Although the Whirlpool Corporation acquired the Maytag Corporation in April of 2006 after 112 years in business, there are still appliances being manufactured by Whirlpool under the Maytag name including refrigerators. Even though Maytag was most know for their washers and dryers which were first sold in 1907, they started selling refrigerators in 1946. There are currently 33 models of refrigerators carrying the Maytag name which include 9 french door style with double doors and the freezer on the bottom, 10 side by side models, 2 models with the freezer on the top, and 11 freezer on the bottom models ranging in price from $850 to $2,900.

One of the most recognizable TV commercial icons was the Maytag repairman played by Jesse White from 1967 to 1989 when Gordon Jump of WKRP fame took over. Gordon was the TV Maytag repairman until 2003 and was succeeded by Hardy Rawls until 2007 when Clay Earl Jackson took over the role and is still playing the part today.

Samsung is not only the world’s favorite consumer electronics manufacturer, they also manufacture household appliances. Nearly 18% of the refrigerators sold in the U.S. are Samsung refrigerators. Samsung currently manufacturers 78 models of refrigerators, including 45 french door style with double doors and the freezer on the bottom, 15 side by side models, 4 four door models, and 14 bottom freezer models ranging in price from $900 to $3,300.

Some of Samsung’s latest innovations for refrigerators and freezers is a technology they call their Twin Cooling System in which individual fans circulate cold air in not only all refrigerator compartments but also in the freezer. Another new feature is that their French Door refrigerators have 14% more storage than any other refrigerator in it’s class. Samsung is able to achieve the RFG299 French Door Refrigerator’s larger interior capacity due to innovative insulation technology using high e-rated urethane, thus reducing the thickness of the refrigerator walls from the standard 2.04 inches to and impressive 1.38 inches, which results in an extra 3.5 cubic feet, or 14%, more storage space. Even with this extra storage space inside, the size on the outside remains the same. Samsung has also announced some of their new french door models will include first-in-the-industry dual ice makers.

Samsung has also taken a step closer to making the refrigerator the information hub for a family’s activities by integrating a 7″ LCD touch screen above the ice and water dispenser of their new RFG299 French Door Refrigerator. In recognizing the kitchen as the heart of the home, and to further its commitment to develop innovative products that enhance consumer lifestyles, Samsung developed the LCD touch screen to give family members easy access to calendars, schedules, showcase photos, nutrition facts, and unit conversions. A simple touch of the screen can even control the refrigerator’s temperature or monitor the water filter status.

What Type of Water Filter Does Your Home Need?

Another option is if you are lucky enough to have a refrigerator that has a filtered water dispenser in it, you will have easy access to cold filtered water right from your refrigerator door.
